Brunello Cucinelli founded his company in 1978 to produce women’s cashmere sweaters setting up a base in a 14th century castle in Umbria in the Medieval village of Solomeo near his home town of Perugia. Using the finest silk and cashmere, he transformed the cashmere knitwear industry with innovative and boldly coloured sweaters. Cucinelli focused on providing light, two-ply cashmere sweaters that were light enough to be worn in the office and at home. As Gnocchi and Simone stated, the popularity of the brand’s Women’s and Men’s Collection caused Cucinelli to expand internationally. “In 2011 we closed the year with 59 stores worldwide with around 30 of them opening in the last four years,” asserts Simone. “The Middle East is a strong market for us. In our other stores located in Milan, St. Tropez and Paris, among others, we have many Middle Eastern clients who buy our products and appreciate our fine craftsmanship.”
Brunello Cucinello’s Men’s Corner at Harvey Nichols offers a chance for client’s to appreciate and have access to Cucinelli’s lifestyle. “We offer products here all Made in Italy as well as bespoke men’s tailoring catering to the client in artisanal way,” says Gnocchi. “We want to introduce clients in Dubai to the special details such as particular pockets and stitching only available through Brunello Cucinelli.”
