Paul Smith Celebrates 25 Years in Manhattan with a Soiree

Last night, Paul Smith celebrated 25 years on this side of the pond. The British designer welcomed well-heeled friends of the brand to his first boutique in Manhattan; 108 Fifth Avenue. Attendees included host Sir Paul Smith, Patti Smith, Patricia Field, Simon Doonan, Glenda Bailey, Kate Schelter, Chris Schumacher, Will Blanchard, Siobhan Fahey and Grace Coddington.

“Lower Fifth Avenue was full of quirky launderettes and nondescript Chinese restaurants,” Sir Paul Smith said of the evolution of the Flatiron neighborhood since opening shop a quarter decade ago.

To commemorate the occasion, Mr. Smith designed a Big Apple-themed collection, available starting yesterday and for the rest of the year. The line is now available in Paul Smith shops and online–pieces include green apple-emblazoned shirts, handkerchiefs and totes. The anniversary item commanding the most attention? A pair of mismatched gold-plated cuff links ($325), one with a folded dollar and one a British pound, an homage to the brand’s trans-Atlantic success.
