Haute Event: Patio Season Opens at Lakeside and SW with a Crab Bash Hosted by Chef David Walzog

Lakeside chefs, including David Walzog to the right, prep dishes for the crab bash.

Lakeside and SW Steakhouse executive chef David Walzog hosted a Baltimore-style crab bash this past weekend to mark the opening of the al fresco dining season at Wynn Las Vegas.

As guests walked in, they found tables wrapped in Baltimore Sun newspapers and mallots for cracking open the crabs. A slip of paper gave detailed instructions on how to become an expert at opening the Maryland blue crabs, the true star of the afternoon.

Guests donning bibs noshed on the Maryland blue crabs, steamed peel and eat shrimp, grilled lobster tails, sliders and Berger’s cookies, a Baltimore favorite. Walzog, a native of Baltimore, welcomed a group of 60 people for the intimate afternoon gathering, and talked about his upbringing in Maryland, the inspiration  behind the event. As courses made their way out, Walzog talked about each dish and even showed guests a quicker way to crack open the crabs.

The event ended with a tour by the famous Sweet Cart Named Desire with desserts from executive chef Kimberly Valdez.

Outdoor dining is now available at Lakeside, SW Steakhouse, Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare, Botero, Switch, Sinatra, The Country Club and Tableau, all located within Wynn Las Vegas and Encore.
