On Wednesday, March 1, the Music Center hosted the annual BRAVO Awards. The celebration, in its thirtieth year, was held at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The BRAVO Awards are held to honor K-12 educators and schools who have worked to instate outstanding visual and performing arts programs on their campuses.
The BRAVO Awards were established as a way for the Music Center to promote quality arts education for all students. This past October, nominations were made by students and educators for four award categories, including General Education Teacher, Arts Specialists Teacher, Overall School, and School Program. A pool of finalists was selected by peers in the education sector and site visits were conducted by a committee to choose the winners. Past BRAVO winners have been from all over greater Los Angeles and have been chosen for the qualities of excellence in the arts, service to the community, and leadership.
This year, the awards ceremony took place in the early evening with special host Gary Marshall. Marshall is known for directing romantic comedies such as Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries, and Valentine’s Day. Apart from Marshall’s hosting duties, the night featured student performances and special recognitions by the Music Center and the Los Angeles County Supervisors.
