Whitney Houston Memorabilia Heads to Auction

Julien’s Auction of Beverly Hills, California will be holding a “Hollywood Legends” auction featuring historic memorabilia that formally belonged to stars including the recently passed Whitney Houston, Charlie Chaplin and Princess Diana.

The “Hollywood Legends” auction will take place over two days, from March 31 through April 1, 2012. It will include some of Hollywood’s most collectible and valuable memorabilia such as a black velvet gown and pearl earrings that used to belong to Whitney Houston, Charlie Chaplin’s walking stick and personal driver’s license, President Kennedy’s rocking chair, Christopher Reeve’s Superman costume and a vintage gown formally owned by Princess Diana.

Since her recent passing, Whitney Houston has taken over the media’s attention, which will certainly create a larger buzz for the items at auction. Her black velvet gown was originally priced at $1,000, however it is expected to fetch much more at auction. It is a floor-length, long-sleeve dress worn once by Houston. It has a high collar and is embellished at the neck and waist with metallic silver ribbon and black and clear stones. Her drop-down faux pearl earrings are expected to go for around $600.

Bids are expected to be very competitive for this auction due to the high-profile items included. Bidders are able to place their bids through an online channel, by phone or even in person.

All of the items set for auction will be on display at an exhibition on March 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel – the same hotel in which Whitney Houston passed away.
