Mavericks of American Dance Premieres to a Full House in LA

On Feb. 1, “The First Lady of The Joffrey,” Patricia Kennedy, hosted the Los Angeles premier of the documentary “Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance.” Showcased at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School, hostess, Kennedy is regarded as the dance troupes most valuable supporter for over three decades.
“Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance” chronicles the Joffrey Ballet Companies storied history from 1956 to the present day and how it revolutionized American dance by fusing modern and classical ballet techniques. Directed by Bob Hercules, the film combines archival footage, behind the scene photos and interviews with former and current Joffrey dancers.
Mavericks also shows rare excerpts from some of The Joffrey’s most famous works including Billboards-which rock star, Prince played music in- Trinity and Astarte.
The LA premiere was a full house of Joffrey fans-young and old- and Joffrey alums such as Jodie Gates, Francoise Martinet Moriarty, Elizabeth Molak-Huebner, Jerry Kokich, Michael Hudson-Medina, Janey Campbell, Jerry Kokivch, Leslie Carothers-Aromaa and Britta Lazenga. Along with the film, the evening included a Q&A with Joffrey alums, directors and dancers.
