by Haley Friedlich

Jay-Z has had much to celebrate in the past month. The rap superstar, along with his equally talented and stunning wife Beyoncé, became a parent to Blue Ivy Carter in January. He debuted his song dedicated to his baby to great fanfare, put on a much-acclaimed series of concerts at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall for his foundation and reopened the New York City installment of his 40/40 club after $10 million in renovations. Yes, celebrations were certainly in order.
The beautifully restored two-tier club on 25th Street and Broadway was unveiled with a big soiree Jan. 18. Jay-Z’s celebrity-studded circle came out for the party. Notable attendees included Spike Lee, supermodels Selita Ebanks and Jessica White, Russell Simmons, New York Yankee CC Sabathia, Detroit Lion Ndamukong Suh, rapper Fabolous, music producers Rico Love and Swizz Beatz, R&B singer Ashanti, New York Knicks Mike Bibby and Tyson Chandler. Warren Buffett enjoyed a private table and posed throwing the ROC symbol in the air.

The renovation’s highlights include several private lounges–suitable for anything from intimate game screenings in the smaller lounges with plush couches and projector screens, to larger gatherings with multiple couches and a pool table. The grand bar is lit up and boasts specks of amber in the molding, while a theater-sized screen plays games overhead. Jay-Z collaborated with his personal chef Mike Shand to overhaul the menu, which now features American favorites such as miniature chicken quesadillas, cookies and cream cheesecake, cajun hot wings and sliders of all sorts.
