HAUTE EVENT: Haute Living Presents the Return of Rock/Freak with DJ Cassidy and Questlove Feb. 15

Haute Living is joining forces with Hugo Boss and Luxury Attaché to present what is sure to be the hautest party during Fashion Week. Feb. 15 marks the re-launch of DJ Cassidy and Questlove’s Rock/Freak Party and the launch of said party in its new space–LAVO. The upcoming party is the inaugural installment of the Rock/Freak series–to take place one Wednesday each month at LAVO.

“Rock Freak is all about the music,” DJ Cassidy told me during our exclusive sit down.  “It’s a dance party for the ages. And we seek to bring together all kinds of people in New York that no other people can bring together; to play every kind of music under the sun. From 50s Rock n Roll, to 60s Soul, to 70s Rock, 80s New Wave, 90s Hip-Hop, to today’s future classics. We really go across the spectrum of sound and take people on a journey that they won’t get anywhere else.”

Rock/Freak may have existed in the past but both DJs are particularly excited for 2.0 because of its new home.

“I’m especially excited to be doing this party at LAVO. Lavo has the best sound systems in New York City by far, hands down. And Rock Freak is all about the sound. So I’m just excited to hit LAVO with their sounds; with their lights. LAVO brings the hottest DJs to their club in the world. So it’s only fitting that we do this at LAVO,” said DJ Cassidy.

Touché.

And in a club climate that favors house music that starts to, dare I say, blend together; won’t it be refreshing to showcase this duo’s vast wealth of music knowledge. DJ Cassidy, a native Manhattanite, is inspired since he was 3-years-old by Hip-Hop. He still wears shell toe Adidas sneakers as an homage to Run DMC and he has commanded some of the hottest celebrity soirees, nightclubs and galas in NYC and worldwide, from behind the turntable. Questlove, drummer and joint frontman for Grammy Award winning group the Roots and acclaimed producer brings his own flavor to the turntables. Both music aficionados–no, let’s say music connoisseurs, pride themselves on being able to provide meticulously curated sounds from any genre; to satisfy any age, race and taste.

“This is the one party where me and Questlove don’t have an opener, we don’t have a closer. We DJ from start to finish. We go back and forth the entire night. No tie-ins, there’s no rehearsal and no blueprint. It’s just me and him essentially feeding off of each other, often competing with each other on who is going to make the people dance harder. It’s really the most fun party that I’ve ever done,” said DJ Cassidy.

I have two words: Rock. Freak.
