Designers Inspired by Russian Aristocracy for Winter/Autumn Collection

Up-and-coming fashion designers, Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman, have previously worked for Alexander McQueen and Faf Simons, but during London’s Fashion Week they duo shined in their own right.
No longer basking in the shadows of major fashion designers, the creative output of Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman of Fyodor Golan was on display during London’ Fashion Week where the designers showcased their debut solo collection.
The designers said their collection was inspired by Russian aristocracy and peasants and primarily revolved around the story of the Romanov family’s missing daughter, Anastasia, who is believed to have survived the family massacre in 1918.
Vogue’s Harriet Quick said, “The workmanship seemed of high quality and there was a dark and romantic spirit reminiscent of Givenchy – the dropped-waist dresses and the silhouettes. It was very striking and I look forward to seeing more.”
Fyodor is half Latvian, half Russian and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Golan, who is Israeli with Moroccan and German roots, studied at the Instituto Maragoni in London. Last year they two won the 2011 Fashion Fringe award and subsequently launched their own label.
On the runway, exaggerate shapes featured an undertone of regality, waists were cinched and skirts were full A-line shapes. Putting the fashion in the realms of couture, each outfit was fitted to the model wearing it.
