Versace’s Year of the Dragon Jewel Handbags

Italian fashion house Versace has debuted its Year of the Dragon Jewel Limited Edition line of handbags, exclusively for Asia.

The collection features luxurious handbags featuring golden dragons on a black background with matte gold accents. The handbags are also studded with precious stones and each one is engraved with “Year of the Dragon 2012” tags along with a limited edition number.

The handbag is priced at $5,017 and the collection is only available in the Asia-Pacific region.

The dragon is deeply entrenched in Chinese tradition today as a symbol of power and good fortune. Luxury brands continue to ramp up the apparent hunger for luxury goods from the Asian market by creating limited edition collection bearing the dragon.

Versace’s Year of the Dragon handbag is limited to 210 pieces worldwide. An even more limited edition Chinese Red python skin handbag is limited to only 60 pieces worldwide.

How much would you spend on a hot dog? What if that hot dog was simmered in cognac aged over a century and named after a French king? What if that cognac saturated hot dog also alludes to the Chinese New Year that celebrates the dragon known for luxury and power?
