Make Chef Joanne Chang’s Famous Sticky Buns at the Halekulani
by Catherine E. Toth

There aren’t many competitors who outright beat Bobby Flay on his “Throwdown” show on the Food Network.

But Joanne Chang, owner of Flour Bakery + Cafe in Boston did. And she’s going to be in Honolulu to share the recipe for sticky buns that won her national acclaim — and bragging rights.

Chang will be hosting a pastry demonstration at the posh Halekulani in Waikiki on Jan. 21. The demonstration will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; brunch, featuring Flour’s signature breakfast bread basket and smoked salmon with herb cream cheese and red onion quiche, will follow.

An honors graduate of Harvard College in applied mathematics and economics, Chang left a career as a management consultant to pursue her passion. In 2000 she opened Flour, a bakery and cafe in Boston’s South End; it has recently expanded to three shops. She also opened a funky indie Chinese diner, Myers + Chang, with her husband, Christopher Myers.

Cost to attend the demonstration is $79 and includes brunch. Guests will also receive a personally signed cookbook.

For reservations call (808) 931-5040.
