Enjoy a £1 Sip of Wine at Selfridges’ Wonder Bar

If you’re out shopping and browsing the shelves at Selfridges and feel the need to quench your thirst with a sip of wine, you don’t have to go far. At the department store’s Wonder Bar you can literally purchase a sip of wine for £1.
Previously there were laws banning the sale of wine by the sip, but that law has been successfully amended after five years of battling back and forth. Dawn Davies of Selfridges was part of the battle as she and The Sampler co-founder Jamie Hutchinson launched a campaign to amend the laws. Davies said, “When I saw we had won I screamed, I was dancing around the office. It is the first time the Government has done anything positive for the drinks industry in a very long time.” The amended law means that pubs and restaurants can now sell wine in any measure they like below 75ml.
Sips, which are one-fifth a ‘small’ glass of wine, at Selfridges’ Wonder Bar start at £1 ($1.50) per shot. Wonder Bar currently offers a sip list that includes wines like Chablis 1er Cru and Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils. Additional vintage wines will be added in the near future.
