Butterfly Gala Raises Awareness for Patient Care

TV personalities heading down the red carpet. Waiters milling around with succulent hors d’oeuvres. All of this and more was on display at the Butterfly Gala at the swanky luxury SLS Hotel.

The Butterfly Gala, organized by Events2Give, was held to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a non-profit medical center that works to improve the health and care of children’s futures. The event was hosted by Charlotte Ross, known for her roles on Glee and NYPD Blue.

“I think the gala’s really important and I’m honored to be a part of it. The hospital survives completely on donations and they actually have 97,000 children they helped this past year. If it wasn’t for this hospital, I don’t know where those sick children would turn,” commented Ross. “They are really on the cutting edge of science as well, we’re really lucky to have it in our backyard.”

Among the festivities was a silent auction with luxury items donated by companies such as J Beverly Hills Salon and Gucci. One of the exhibitors at the event was the Beauty Bus, a nonprofit that provides free beauty and grooming services for chronically ill men, women, and children. The organization provides popup salons at places like the Ronald McDonald House and in-home services for those who may not necessarily be able to leave their homes for a haircut or to get their nails done.

The Beauty Bus was created by Alicia Liotta, a beauty industry veteran, and her cousin. They founded the Beauty Bus following an experience with a family member who suffered from a neurodegenerative disease.

“Seeing the hope it gave her, the strength it gave her, the ability to let her see herself in the mirror and see a beautiful girl as opposed to seeing someone who was sick meant so much to me,” said Liotta.

At the end of the night, it was clear that the Butterfly Gala was a success in terms of raising awareness about patients who need care, be it the patients of the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles or the recipients of beauty and hair services from the Beauty Bus.
