Mr. Brainwash, the moniker of Los Angeles-based filmmaker and Pop artist Thierry Guetta, is preparing for a showing of his latest collection, “Art Show 2011.”
On December 22 viewers will be privy to a preview night and “Art Show 2011” will be displayed through December 29 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Said to be his largest and most ambitious Los Angeles exhibition so far, “Art Show 2011” will include Mr. Brainwash’s own work in addition to the work of invited and select global artists. The exhibition will be 80,000 square feet of space with 20,000 square feet turned over to other artists who are permitted a maximum space of 4 feet by 6 feet apiece of the floors, ceilings and walls for their submitted art work.
Thierry Guetta began spray-painting stencils and posters of his pop art inspired images on throughout the streets from Los Angeles to Paris as he attempted to make a street art documentary. His artwork quickly caught on and he emerged as a renowned figure in the international street scene.
His work continues to receive great recognition from art collectors, street-art enthusiasts and even celebrities. In 2009 pop icon Madonna approached Guetta to design the cover of her greatest hits compilation entitled, Celebration. Prestigious auction houses Christie’s and Phillips have also acquired some of his work.
