Haute Time: IWC Casemaking

The process of casemaking is both an art and a science. While Swiss IWC main factory is located Baumgartenstrasse in the City of Schaffhausen, cases are produced in another facility tucked away on the Rhine which an extra special attention to details and craftsmanship.
While the movements and small pieces of watches are often thought to be the more intricate to create- with mini tools and tweezers, the construction of casing is in reality one of the most complicated as it protects the watch’s movement and dictates the design
Few other watch companies make their own cases because of the complexity and costs, which makes IWC stand apart for its in house proudcution . This gives the comapny great control over its product.
Christian Loss, Department Manager for Industrialization Cases, oversees the casemaking process which great knowlege of machinery and manufacturing operations. He explains the raw metal becomes a case in a series of steps
