Halekulani Introduces Hawaii’s First Waterless Nail Service
by Catherine E. Toth

It may not sound possible.
But starting in 2012, the award-winning Spa Halekulani will introduce eco-friendly waterless pedicures and manicures, making it the first in the state to offer this innovative (and green) service.
Here’s how it works: as you relax in one of the spa’s new Zero Gravity chairs by Human Touch, hands are wrapped in a softening warm towel. That’s followed by nail shaping and cuticle conditioning with a new cuticle balm designed for the spa. The experience is finished with gentle callus removal, exfoliation and a soothing massage. (The deluxe experience includes steam therapy, mask and paraffin treatment.) No water needed.
It’s a “pampering experience that is not only healthier for our guest but is environmentally friendly,” says spa director Lena Mossman. “The cleaning chemicals required and the amount of water used in a standard nail service have the potential to affect our ocean and sea life, which encouraged us to find a solution to reduce our carbon footprint.”
