Cocktail Culture: Blame it on Rio This Month at SushiSamba

The caipirinha leblon at SushiSamba.

Savor the flavors of Brazil this month at SushiSamba during the restaurant’s happy hour. Look for foods from Brazil, cocktail specials and surprise entertainment that includes contests, lessons and cultural performances.

Every Sunday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to close, look for $6 Moqueca de Camaraos, short rib Trouxinhas, crab croquettes, coconut scallop seviche, Feijoada Pastels and shrimp Requeijao roll shrimp tempura. Sup on $5 Brazilian beers such as Palma Luca lager and Xingu black beer, or order up one of five caipirinhas, the official drink of Brazil. You can even take part in a muddling class to learn the fine art of adding fruits to your cocktails.

In the meantime, mix up some of your own cocktails with these recipes from SushiSamba:

Caipirinha Leblon
6 pieces of lime (half quarters)
3 flat bar spoons of sugar
Muddle lime and sugar together
1 1/2 ounce Leblon Cachaca

Blame it on Rio
A refreshing twist on Brazil’s national cocktail, the Caipirinha. Fresh limes and cucumber are shaken with agave and Leblon Cachaça, with a touch of jalapeño for a spicy finish.

2 ounce Leblon Cachaça
1 ounce agave syrup
1 ounce fresh lime juice
2 slices cucumber
1 slice jalapeño
Pinch of sea salt
Cucumber slice to garnish

Combine all in a shaker, add ice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a cucumber slice.

SushiSamba is located at the Shoppes at the Palazzo, 3325 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; 702-607-0700.
