TROPHY LODGES: HAND HEWN LOG ESTATE
by Mollie Lichy

This is no ordinary log cabin. Victory Lodge, set upon the majestic Eastern Sierras in the renowned June Lakes area of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., is a massive private residence, boasting 9 bedrooms and 9.5 bathrooms. The hand-hewn log cabin is truly an architectural masterpiece carved into the breathtaking mountains above Gull Lake.

Like any true architectural gem, the home melds seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, providing unrivaled views of the lake and snow-capped Carson Peak. The home’s furnishings are included in the purchase price, a major perk. It comes decked out with designer amenities and an array of unique pieces and antique commodities worth more than $1 million. Just one of these many unique pieces within the home’s interior is the world’s largest elk antler chandelier, which hangs above the center of a grand living area.

The original owners worked with Alpine Log Homes to design the foundations and overlook the resurrection of the abode, which sits on 3.22 acres. The construction process itself lasted more than eight years, but the end results were well worth the wait. The owners envisioned a home with the breathtaking backdrop of the Sierra Nevada that still offered a sense of casual comfort, a home built to span generations. They certainly succeeded.

Designer Corrine Brown ensured that every element of the expansive 16,500 square-foot cabin be incomparable to any other home. While the exterior is comprised of large supportive wood columns and the façade is built with stone and wood, every inch of the interior boasts luxe, fine details. Surfaces are adorned with hand-carvings and hunting memorabilia hangs from the walls. A combination of differing textures – such as marble, stone and wood – give the home an exotic feel.

In addition to the bedrooms and bathrooms, the house includes a state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen, a butler’s kitchen, 11 stone fireplaces, a spa-size sauna, steam rooms, a pool room, a fully-equipped gym, a Sport Court ®, Crestron security, fully outfitted media and game rooms, a lavish casino and caretaker’s quarters. But the home wouldn’t be complete without the 8-car, fully covered parking space, measuring approximately 140,263 square feet. With its sky-high wooden beamed ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows allowing the natural light to pour in, the home boasts breathtaking interiors.

But the home’s living space extends outdoors as well. The wrap-around terraces and patios provide a perfect venue for taking in the wild beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains. Outdoor facilities include a deck and patio, a guesthouse and a plethora of terraces and balconies.

But this home isn’t just about architectural beauty. This sport friendly Trophy Residence is the perfect place for active types and is located in one of the most desirable fishing areas in the United States.

Regardless of the fact that this home fits the bill for extravagance with an ongoing list of luxury amenities, it is perfect for a family who likes to live casually and enjoy the simple things in life.

The grand estate, located in the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountains, is one of the most exclusive log homes to ever be built and is currently being listed exclusively by Sotheby’s International Realty, Inc. for $16,400,000.
