Tamara Mellon to Leave Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Choo co-founder and chief creative officer Tamara Mellon is leaving the luxury footwear and handbags brand just five months after its acquisition by the private equity firm Labelux.

The details on her departure are not entirely clear yet but numerous reports indicate Mellon will leave Jimmy Choo. It is reported that her exit will coincide with that of Joshua Shulman, the current Jimmy Choo CEO, however, it appears they have made their decision to leave independently of one another and neither is leaving because of better job offers.

Both Shulman and Mellon’s departures are reportedly amicable, and they both will stay on for the next few months until replacements are found. Mellon is known for her work growing Jimmy Choo from the handmade wares of a single British cobbler into a multi-million dollar global accessories firm. She previously worked at British Vogue’s accessories department in the late 1990s but left to build the Malaysian-born Jimmy Choo, with a £150,000 loan from her father. Labelux, the third private company to own Jimmy Choo since it was founded, reportedly paid around $800 million.
