Sunny Spot Brightens Up Washington Blvd. in Venice

When one door closes, another opens – and such is the case with Sunny Spot in Venice. The former Beachwood space on Washington Boulevard is now bursting with color and flavor thanks to Kogi chef Roy Choi. Brian Butler, cocktail connoisseur of A-Frame fame, put together the rum-centric drinks menu. With their powers combined, Venice now has another shining star on its culinary roster.
Inspired by the cuisine of the West Indies, Sunny Spot’s menu features pineapple lollipops with chili salt, jerk wings, sugar cane pigs feet with chili vinegar, pickled dragonfruit, fish bone fisherman’s stew, slow roasted goat, whole lobster with allspice butter, and sweet potato souffle. A must-try dish? The papaya-guava honey pot salad with crushed cashews, red onion, lime and tarragon (pictured).
The decor is straight out of the Caribbean with its tropical beach shack feel and colorful stools, and the splashes of aqua paint complete the ocean vibe. Sunny Spot is open Sunday-Monday, 5-10 p.m. (bar is open until 11 p.m.); Tuesday-Wednesday, 5-11 p.m. (bar is open until midnight); and Thursday-Saturday 5 p.m. to midnight (bar open until 2 a.m.).
