Pétrus Auctioned at Record-Breaking High

Pétrus, one of the most prestigious names in the wine industry, is having an excellent year. A  12-bottle case of 1961 Pétrus sold for a record-breaking $144,000 at  Christie’s auction on October 29. The case’s worth was originally estimated between $50,000 and $90,000, experts say. Other top sales included 11 bottles of 1961 Pétrus, which sold to a European trade buyer for $90,000 and a case of Lafite 1982 for $50,400 sold to a private client. The wine auction brought in a heaping $2 million in sales. These sales are indicative of the strength of both the luxury wine market and the luxury goods market as a whole.
