Miami to Lose $200 Million if Lockout Unresolved

If the NBA lockout persists, economists say that base cities could lose some serious revenue. Miami—a town abuzz with enthusiasm for their beloved Heat and anticipation for the stellar season that they were slated to have—will lose an estimated $200 million without the basketball business.
In a startling contrast to last year when the Heat made it all the way, the American Airlines Arena and the restaurants and businesses immediately surrounding the area are a comparative ghost town. With what’s argued to be the best trio of players in the league, the Heat consistently attract locals and tourists alike to come out for a game, a bite, a drink, etc. Without the hype of the games, business proprietors will have to come up with other marketing measures, but will still almost certainly take a hit.
