Masterpieces of Ming Loyalists Art Rare Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is exhibiting a rare collection of masterpieces of 17th century Ming Loyalist Art through Jan. 2.   The featured works were collected in the 1950s and 1960s by the late Hong Kong collector, Hu lu-kwong.  The collection’s permanent home is a nonprofit public entity overseen by Mr. Ho’s descendants.

The masterpieces of Ming Loyalist Art Collection is arranged into five regional or thematic categories: Ming Martyrs; The Yellow Mountain and Nanjing Regional Schools; Guangdong Artists; Monk Painters; and Jiangsu and Zhejiang Artists.  The reason behind this categorization is to provide the best aesthetic atmosphere and intellectual context for The Met’s viewers of the collection.
