Madison Square Garden to Auction Off Sports Items

New York City’s Madison Square Garden will be holding an auction featuring items like lockers, a Ranger goal net and Led Zeppelin artwork.
President of MSG Sports, Scott O’Neil, said, “Who wouldn’t want a Willis Reed plaque that hung in the tunnel where players walked out to the arena floor?”
Items set for sale include Knick and Ranger lockers, NBA basketball hoops, game-used NHL pucks and even a goal net from Game 7 of the Rangers’ historic 1994 Stanley Cup championship, which is expected to fetch thousands of dollars. It remains unclear which players’ lockers are up for auction.
O’Neil added, “This building is more than bricks and mortar; it’s made of memories.”
All of the items were removed during the first phase of a $850 million reconstruction of what is known as the “World’s Most Famous Arena.”
Additional items to be sold include:
– Hall of Fame plaques for Knick Patrick Ewing and Rangers Ed Giacomin and Rod Gilbert.
– Artwork from the hallways commemorating concerts by The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, as well as their framed plaques and records.
– An entire basketball hoop and its stanchion (starting price of $1,500).
– Boxing memorabilia from Muhammad Ali to Andrew Golata. Bidding on most of these items will start at $50.
– Concert posters from such groups as Pearl Jam and The Who.
Fans are able to place their bids for the items at PieceOfTheGarden.com
