Haute Eat: Margaux

Recently refurbished, Margaux restaurant, located in Dubai’s Souk Al Bahar features a swanky interior of polished wood furnishings, bold Contemporary artworks and dim lighting in a presentation which almost resembles that of a Parisian music hall or stylish brasserie. Although originally featuring a menu of French Riviera inspired dishes,  Margaux boasts a more avant-garde mix of French and Italian authentic dishes reappropriated to feature eclectic tastes as well as innovative designs.

I had previously eaten at Margaux before the restaurant’s refurbishment and was pleasantly surprised by the new swanky decor. Subtle music played in the background as my guest and I were treated to our meal explained in detail by Margaux’s staff and sommelier.

For starters, we were served a chilled rare tuna made with Jalapeno guacamole and citrus vinaigrette as well as a rich and creamy foie gras terrine boasting sweet fresh peach marmalade and salted honey jelly. Each was delectably consumed with the help of 2010 Chilean Villard Estate Pinot Noir.

Our main courses featured a brioche crusted salmon with crayfish, potato gnocchi and garlic butter and my instant favorite, prawn linguini with a taste of tangy ginger, coriander and green chili – just enough spice to leave you perked. A seeming architecturally composed chocolate and peanut butter fondant cake arrived for dessert with a shy helping of vanilla ice cream and strawberry jam as subtle sides in comparison to the bountiful rich and warm chocolate cake.

A visit to the new Margaux feels like a trip to a vibrant French brasserie turned nightclub where the doors are open until late and guests can expect a host of colorful characters.
