Haute 100 Update: The Goldman Fund Announces $4.45M+ Final Round of Grants

For six decades, the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund has been supporting non-profits in San Francisco and beyond. Now, the foundation is wrapping up its grants with a final round of new contributions totaling over $4.45 million.

Fund officials announced that the 60-year-old fund would cease its operations at the end of 2012 after founder Richard Goldman passed away on Nov. 29 last year. His wife, Rhoda Goldman, passed away in 1996. Next year is to be purely administrative with the remaining assets to be divided among the family foundations of the three Goldman children.

As part of the closing operations of the fund, the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Federation, Congregation Emanu-El, and three other organizations were approved for $25 million in legacy grants. The organizations are receiving the grants due to their “long-standing relationships with the fund” and the fact that they “represent issues of personal importance to the Goldman family.”

Since the fund was founded in 1951, over $700 million have been distributed among 2,600 non-profits in the Bay Area, Israel, and elsewhere. The funds have gone towards causes to include the environment, Jewish affairs, reproductive health and rights, arts and culture, education, child welfare, elderly care, and more.

Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets. To see the entire Haute 100 San Francisco list, click here.
