Burgundy Dominating the Asian Wine Market

Burgundy wine is haute in Asia right now. Fine-wine auctioneer Acker Merrall & Condit sold a total of $14.5 million USD, with 98% of the lots sold, in a two-day wine auction held in Hong-Kong. Acker has stated that his total surpassed any single wine auction this year.

These results are indicative of the increasing demand for Burgundy in both the international and Asian marketplace. Notable American wine collector Don Stott, well-known for his fine collection of Burgundy, provided many of the wines for this auction.

The top selling item was a 12-bottle case of 1990 Henri Jayer Vosne Romanée Cros Parontoux, which sold for $93,846 USD. The most expensive single bottle sold at the auction was a Jeroboam (three-liter bottle) of 1999 DRC Romanée Conti, which reached $75,077 USD after an extensive bidding match.
