Artist Allen Hirsch to Inaugurate Public Artworks in Honor of Benjamin, the Capuchin Monkey
New York based artist Allen Hirsch, known for his figurative paintings, portraits of presidents and covers of Time magazine, is scheduled to debut a new and very personal body of work on Tuesday November 15 at the Storefront of Art and Architecture in downtown Manhattan. Hirsch’s new artworks pay tribute to his recently deceased companion, Benjamin, the Capuchin monkey that lived with him for 14 years and graced the streets of New York City regularly.
For the first time ever, Hirsch will exhibit a large painting of Benjamin done in his unique “string” method -a technique that employs an array of painted strings spread out against an empty ground forcing the brain to put together the image. This body of work is full of pain, beauty and a certain raw emotion that is very compelling.
