Page Six confirmed that master hotelier Andre Balazs will be turning the Cooper Square Hotel into another Standard Hotel. The second NYC Standard will be more “intimate and residential” than the rather flamboyant Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District.
The verdict is not yet out on Balazs’ intentions regarding the beloved rooftop concerts that the Cooper Square Hotel is known for. The famed hotel mogul made headlines earlier this week after breaking up with E! funny girl Chelsea Handler.

Andre Balazs is nearly set to proceed with renovations to the Standard East Village (f.k.a. the Cooper Square Hotel) after the local community board approved his proposals at a meeting the other night.
Fresh off of his opening of the new rooftop biergarten in downtown L.A.’s Standard, hospitality icon André Balazs already has a new project to take on. Balazs is bringing his magic touch to the decaying Temple Court building at 5 Beekman Street downtown.
Andre Balazs plans to open a London Hotel and the likely location is in the place of an old fire station in Marylebone at Chiltern Street. The proposed site is not very large, so it is unlikely to be a Standard Hotel, but rather another sort of Mercer Hotel.
Haute Living previously reported that Hotelier and nightclub afficianado, Andre Balazs had applied for a liquor license transfer to the Hotel.
