A DAY IN THE LIFE: Suave Sommelier
by Rachel Morgan

Wine Library TV founder Gary Vaynerchuk knows the power of social media. Vaynerchuk used Facebook and Twitter to build his family’s wine business into a national powerhouse; later he did the same to promote Wine Library TV, his wildly popular online wine video blog. Wine Library TV has since become a $65 million empire, based on Vaynerchuk’s daily wine tasting video blogs.  Vaynerchuk is also co-founder of social media agency and consulting firm VaynerMedia, has authored several books, including The Thank You Economy, and jetsets around the country for speaking engagements. While he recently retired from Wine Library TV, this entrepreneur continues to lead VaynerMedia into the next generation. We take a peek into a normal day for this social media standout.

4:15 AM

I take a car from Baltimore to Washington, D.C. after attending the Jets game last night. Tweet about Jets’ loss.

6:00 AM

Take a flight from Washington, D.C. to Boston for a keynote speech I’m giving at the Digital Marketing Association’s annual convention and expo.

9:00 AM

Join a virtual Biz Stone, co-founder and creative director of Twitter Inc., on stage at DMA 2011. Stone appear via a live video feed from his home in Berkeley, California. We discuss the marketing power of Twitter, a service many thought was silly at its onset. In fact, my biggest regret is not investing in Twitter early on. Tweet congrats to Stone on speech and impending fatherhood.

11:00 AM

Time to move on again. Car from Boston to Connecticut for a client meeting. Catch up on mentions from Twitter followers on the way.

2:00 – 4:00 PM

Client meeting with client. Sorry, I can’t reveal the name.

4:00 – 6:00pm

Another car, headed back to New York City, where VaynerMedia (which I founded with my brother AJ) is based.

6:00 - 8:00 PM

I spend some quality time with my family.

8:30-9:30 PM

Drinks with Scooter Braun. My drink of choice – a sparkling wine.
