£230,000 Dress to be Displayed at Harrods’ Crystal Christmas Event

A Ralph & Russo-designed dress costing £230,000 will be the centerpiece of Harrods’ Crystal Christmas event.
Embellished with more than 150,000 Swarovski Elements crystals, the dress was inspired by the decadence of the Twenties. It will be the centerpiece during the department store’s Swarovski-sponsored window displays over the holiday season.
Ralph & Russo creative director Tamara Ralph said, “We are really excited to be part of ‘A Crystal Christmas’ at Harrods. When I was asked to create my own ultimate Swarovski gown, I was instantly inspired by the Twenties. I wanted to create a show-stopping and intricate piece that oozed with glamour.”
The foundation of the Ralph & Russo label is couture gowns – typically worn on the red carpet by superstars like Angelina Jolie, Beyonce and Eva Longoria. However, even with the experience of producing many intricate one-of-a-kind dresses, this dress was a challenge for the high-end designers.
“This is the first time we have ever used so many crystals on a single gown – a total of 152,000 to be precise!” Ralph said. “The gown took hundreds of hours to create and more than 25 couturiers to hand make, but we are extremely pleased with the finished gown and it really sets off the window nicely.”
The Harrods Crystal Christmas window display will be unveiled on November 5.
