Retreat in Luxury at the Modern Honolulu’s Penthouse
by Catherine E. Toth

If the Modern Honolulu in Waikiki had a Facebook page, its relationship status would like be, “It’s complicated.”
At the end of August, the owners of the 353-room luxury hotel — then called the Waikiki EDITION — ousted Marriott International management company, changed the locks and renamed the hotel. The Modern Luxury is now run by Modern Management Services, an affiliate of Aqua Hotels & Resorts.
And while some things have changed, most haven’t, including its one-of-a-kind penthouse.
It’s a spacious 1,400 square feet with a private dining room, kitchen, entertainment center, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from a 1,500-square-foot landscaped terrace. And all for $7,500 a night.
The room — and there are separate bedrooms, living and dining areas — boasts 46-inch flat-screen TVs with full cable access, custom beds with imported linens from Frette and down comforters and pillows, original custom furniture and light fixtures, Terrazzo counter tops and sinks in bathrooms, and glass-enclosed showers and tubs.
To book the penthouse, call (808) 943-9291.
