Comedian and car collector Jerry Seinfeld will serve as co-grand marshal for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, one of two high-profile Porsche events happening this weekend on the Monterey Peninsula.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca hosts the first Porsche Rennsport Reunion ever held on the west coast from Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14 through 16. Seinfeld and retired Porsche Engineer Norbert Singer will preside over the showcase of speed, design and racing history, an extraordinary event billed as one of the world’s largest Porsche-only gatherings. In addition to eight racing classes on the track, car displays and daily autograph sessions featuring some of the top names in Porsche history, the reunion will honor the Porsche 911.

Seinfeld, whose own collection includes the first production 911 and a street-version Porsche 959 that is one of only 200 ever built, will exhibit several of his cars over the weekend.

The event gives guests exciting access to vehicles as well as designers, drivers, collectors and other enthusiasts, explains Bernd Harling, principal communications counsel for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA).

“This event makes it possible, not only for hard-core fans but also for anyone who loves these cars, to see them up close,” he says. “It will show what makes Porsche so special.”

Just over the hill at Quail Lodge Golf Club, the Porsche Race Car Classic on Oct. 16 promises an unparalleled collection of early Porsche racers released between 1950 and 1965. Approximately 200 notable vehicles have been invited to the show field, including rare cars shipped from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, and what is believed to be the only complete Bobsy-Porsche SR-3 still in existence.

Event organizer Steve Heinrichs, a car collector and the co-author of a book on Porsche Speedsters, hopes to raise $2 million for lung cancer research as he spotlights spectacular vehicles. The Bay Area resident is a lung cancer survivor himself, and he’ll contribute a tax-deductible $350 of each $400 ticket to The University of California San Francisco Thoracic Oncology Program and the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.

PCNA is supporting both Porsche events. Schedules have been coordinated so that Sunday’s early-model races at Laguna Seca will wrap up before events begin at Quail Lodge.

Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV tickets are available at www.mazdaraceway.com or 800-327-7322. For Porsche Race Car Classic tickets and information, visit www.porscheracecarclassic.com.
