The French Laundry is London bound
It’s a fabulous time for American chefs in London. French born US star chef Daniel Boulud (best known for the Michelin starred restaurant Daniel) launched Bar Boulud in Knightsbridge’s Mandarin Oriental to critical acclaim last year, while Wolfgang Puck opened the Cut in 45 Park Lane only last week. And the US invasion shows no signs of stopping…
America’s most feted chef, Thomas Keller – the only American born chef to hold multiple three star ratings - plans to recreate his The French Laundry (the renowned Napa Valley restaurant which counts Julia Roberts, Mick Jagger, Michael Jordan and Christina Aguilera as fans) in Harrods next month. The pop up will open for 10 days on October 1 and will serve a set nine course menu – said to be a mix of American influenced French dishes that Keller serves in California as well as new creations for London – for £250. The French Laundry at Harrods is Keller’s first venture outside America and will serve both lunch and dinner to 70 covers.

All told, the imminent arrival of Keller’s The French Laundry along with a London version of Keith McNally’s Balthazar in Covent Garden in 2012 reinforces the fact that after years in Europe’s world-class eats shadow, the capital has finally caught up if not overtaken its continental cousins.
The French Laundry will be at The Georgian Restaurant, Harrods, 87-135 Brompton Road, SW3 from October 1-10. Lunch will be served from 12noon-1.30pm and dinner from 6-7.30pm. To make a reservation call 020 3059 6498 between 5-8pm.
