Save the Date: Kahala’s Wine & Food Classic goes Hollywood
by Catherine E. Toth

There’s a reason why the Kahala Hotel & Resort on Oahu has been nicknamed “Kaha-llywood.”
It’s been a favorite of celebrities since its opening in 1964, with A-list guests such as Lucille Ball, Cameron Diaz, Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Michael Jackson, Alec Baldwin, Drew Barrymore and Sean Penn.
Need we say more?
So it’s no surprise the luxury hotel decided to add some of its Hollywood glitz to its The Kahala Wine & Food Classic: Hollywood Goes Hawaiian, running from Sept. 16 and 17 at its 6.5-acre property in upscale Kahala.
Chateau Marmont executive chef Carolynn Spence and one of Napa Valley’s most popular vintners, Rich Frank, owner of Frank Family Vineyards and producer of USA Network’s “Royal Pains” and FX’s “Wilfred,” — both shown below — headline this two-day event, which includes gourmet dinners on both nights, a cooking demonstration an wineology seminar on Saturday morning, a cigar experience on Saturday afternoon, and a cigar-tasting experience following dinner on Saturday night. All events are sold separately and open to the public.

Spence is a self-proclaimed “old punk rocker” with tats of artichokes on her forearm and a passion for the English punk rock band, The Clash. She’s earned a reputation for pushing the gastronomical envelope since taking over the culinary team at Hollywood’s ultra-hip Marmont restaurant and neighboring Bar Marmont gastropub.
She is joined by Frank, whose vineyard was voted Best Napa Winery two years in a row, is a household name in Hollywood. His vineyard boasts more than 200 acres of the finest land in the valley and has one of the most popular tasting rooms in the area.
Event costs range from $50 for the post-dinner cigar experience on Saturday night to $150 for a gourmet dinner prepared by Spence.
