Monterey Gets Fierce Addition to Dining Scene with Restaurant 1833
by Alison Agudo

Looking for something to spice up your wining and dining in Monterey? Try Restaurant 1833 where cocktails are poured while on fire.

The San Francisco Chronicle has an upcoming special section dedicated to all things food and wine in Monterey. A new restaurant guide by Michael Bauer will include a closer look at a hot spot called Restaurant 1833.

Restaurant 1833 is located at the historic Stokes Adobe house. The landmark was reinvented to offer modern, sophisticated yet casual American dining. The cuisine is labeled as Californian contemporary American.

Bauer writes that Restaurant 1833 began as a project and turned into a labor of love. Brought to Monterey by owners Dave Bernahl and Rob Weakley, best known for the Pebble Beach Food & Wine Classic, Restaurant 1833 features seven distinct rooms, including a run room, a library dining room and a mezzanine lined with curved banquettes overlooking a lounge with a white onyx bar.

The food “keeps pace with the well-crafted interior” and comes from Levi Mezich, whose resume includes some of the finest restaurants in New York including Per Se, Daniel and Café Boulud.
