Miami Hotel Forecast for 2012
by Alison Agudo

Miami is a bustling beach city that is no stranger to construction and new condo and hotel developments. Haute Living takes a look at an impressive list of new hotels coming to the Magic City in 2012.

SLS Hotel at South Beach: This hotel has been creating a lot of buzz with its upcoming restaurants and superstar Lenny Kravitz’s involvement. It is expected to open some time in 2012.

The Shelborne: Renovations and food and beverage additions are expected to be complete sometime this year giving neighboring hotel The Raleigh a run for its money.

Thompson Ocean Drive: Formally known as Hotel Victor, this hotel is expected to get a much bigger profile when it opens in the coming year.

The James Royal Palm: Set to be revealed in late 2012, the old Royal Palm hotel is getting a James Hotels makeover.

The Surfcomber: Formally a Doubletree property, which is still actually open, this hotel is not yet operating as a Kimpton just yet. Work is underway but there has been no official word from the Kimpton headquarters as to when the hotel will make its debut.

B South Beach: This will be another hotel lined up along Collins Avenue, which should be ready by fall 2012.

EDITION South Beach: This upcoming hotel will be located on the site of the old Seville Beach Resort, also along hotel-packed Collins Avenue.

Cipriani Miami: There have been reports of activity on this construction site which is also on the beach, however the website for what used to be Cipriani Ocean Resort and Club Residences is no longer live.

St. Regis Bal Harbour: This hotel is coming along nicely and the website is indicating that it should be opened by 2012. It is located in the high-end part of Miami known as Bal Harbour.

Marlin Hotel: Though the hotel has not reopened yet, the street-level bar is open already causing buzz that it should all be complete in the near future.

The Fairfax Miami: Located across the street from The Raleigh, this hotel was supposed to be revamped, but no official word has been released despite construction work being done in plain sight.

Hampton Inn Brickell: This downtown eco-friendly hotel is on track and expected to open this coming fall.

Element Miami International Airport: This long awaited addition to the Miami hotel scene is on schedule so far for its December 8 debut.

Aloft Miami-Brickell: This hotel is estimated to open in July 2012.

Aloft Miami Doral: Scheduled to open in 2013 following the Aloft Miami-Brickell opening.

Resorts Miami: Mega-hotel-casino complex is still just in the blueprint stages of development while some Miami politicians are trying to block the casino part of it.
