Many of Forbes’ 400 Richest Americans Call California Home
by Alison Agudo

Forbes calculates that California boasts the most billionaires living within its borders among all U.S. States.

Many of Forbes’ 400 Richest Americans currently live in California and while Forbes gives the title to California for being home to the most billionaires, if you control for population, Wyoming, Montana, New York, Connecticut and Nevada all have a higher per-capita concentration of billionaires. Regardless, California is estimated to have at least a couple of billionaires for every million people residing in the state.

One such billionaire is Larry Ellison, CEO and co-founder of Oracle who also is the richest Californian with a net worth of $33 billion. He also ranks as the third-richest American, behind only Bill Gates (worth $59 billion) and Warren Buffett ($39 billion).

Most of California’s billionaires are over 50 years old, however two are still in their 20s…and happen to work at the same place. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the second-richest Californian and 14th-richest American with a net worth of around $17.5 billion and Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz is also 27 and worth around $3.5 billion.

Over at Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin are both just 38 years old and are among the youngest billionaires, ranking just behind Zuckerberg. Page and Brin tied for third-richest Californian and 15th-richest American.

Across the U.S., eight out of every nine billionaires on the list is older than 50.
