LipoFreeze: “Cool It” Fat Cells!

Last week, I had a chance to speak with Dr. Simon Ourian, head of Beverly Hills’ Epione Medical Corporation, about a breakthrough non-invasive liposuction technique called LipoFreeze.
LipoFreeze targets specific fat cells with an advanced tissue cooling technology. How does this work you ask? Dermatologists at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital discovered that fat cells are naturally vulnerable to the effects of cold. Essentially the cold temperature causes fat cells to go through a process called apoptosis, or cell death. Dr. Ourian called it “cell suicide”, which has a nice ring to it when referring to fat cells. On a serious note however, cell death sounds a bit scary. However, this procedure safely targets the specific fat cells without harming any surrounding tissue or skin, resulting in fat layers thinning over time.
Dr. Ourian noted that this procedure was ideal for men or women who were already in pretty good shape. The ideal candidate would be about 15 lbs. overweight and have specific areas (i.e., back fat, double chin, belly fat) to target.
LipoFreeze is a real breakthrough in the world of fat reduction when compared to other non-invasive devices that utilize heat or sound waves. The advanced cooling of LipoFreeze allows the fat cells to undergo a natural fat cell removal process. The procedure is also a fraction of the cost of traditional liposuction at $1,200-$3,500, depending on the area being treated.
The procedure does not require pain medication, and despite minor discomfort from the cold air, patients will be up and back on their feet immediately following the procedure.
So if a little cold, well, okay, freezing air, is all it takes to convince my fat cells to ‘off themselves’ in the name of a better swimsuit physique, I’m all for it.
