How to Undo Summer Skin Damage
by HauteLiving

While you cautiously soak up the last of summers’ rays this Labor Day weekend, doused in your favorite brand of block, you may want to consider some of these post-summer skin therapy options. Below is a summary of four recommended by Mike Sendogan of LaserTouch Soho in New York City.

Microdermabrasion: One of the most common summer skin treatments, this procedure is non-invasive and results are immediate. At LaserTouch Soho, Pristine Diamond Tips are used to get rid of dead cells from the skins surface through exfoliation, leaving you with soft and refreshed skin. Microdermabrasion treats scars, aging skin, acne, ingrown hairs, cellulite, stretch marks and enlarged pores. You should expect to feel slight pressure during the procedure. Post procedure redness and soreness subsides within hours leaving you with softer smoother skin.

Freckle & Sun Spot Removal: Getting rid of sun spots, freckles and pigment lesions makes for a younger looking you. Sendogan notes the importance of waiting until your tan fades before undergoing this procedure.  You can have the removal done on any part of the body, but the most popular areas are the face, chest, shoulders and arms. Treatments are a few minutes in length and maximum results are usually seen after one to two appointments. The equipment is cool, but do expect to feel a slight pinching sensation when the light hits the skin. Post procedure includes a sunburn-like feeling and possible scabbing. However, you should heal within a week with the application of special ointments.

Chemical Peel: There are several different types of chemical peels, but all are virtually painless and yield dramatic results. Sendogan stresses the importance of a one-on-one consult to determine if you are a candidate for the treatment. Ideal candidates include people who have mild to moderate damage from sun exposure, aging or other lifestyle factors. LaserTouch Soho uses gentle acids including alpha and beta hydroxyl. Mild to moderate stinging sensations are briefly experienced and the recovery time is anywhere from three days to a week. The number of treatments needed are based on your own cosmetic goals, but usually peels last for 3 months at a time.

Organic Airbrush Tanning: For those of you who want to hold onto that summer glow, LaserTouch Soho uses a 100% organic, all natural, FDA-approved airbrush tan. A custom blend is mixed for each client. It’s important to exfoliate prior to the procedure. Skip the moisturizer, as that can clog pores and prevent proper formula penetration. The treatment takes about 35 minutes and results develop within hours and darken steadily over time. The results last about a week or longer if you properly hydrate. Tan fades gradually as a natural tan would. Sign me up!
