Haute spa: Four-handed massage at the Four Seasons on Maui

Four hands can be better than two — especially when those four hands are massaging your overworked traps and calves in an oceanfront hut at a luxurious resort on Maui.

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea offers this very unique massage, Lomi Aumoa, with two therapists providing an unforgettable massage experience in a traditional thatched hut fronting the picturesque Wailea Beach.

They work in unison — the massage is actually choreographed — to provide twice the healing experience using traditional lomi lomi techniques.

Cost is $325 for 50 minutes oceanside, $450 for 80 minutes and $550 for 110 minutes. (It’s slightly less expensive indoors.)

These open-air thatched huts — called hales — were built in July 2007, when the five-star luxury resort in South Maui completed a $50 million renovation. The resort opened in 1990 and sits on 15 acres of Wailea coastline.

The spa menu boasts Vichy shower treatments, body wraps, lomi pohaku (a hot stone massage), ocean Aquacranial massage and more.
