Donna Karan Madison Avenue recently hosted the launch of Marisa Berenson’s A Life in Pictures during this September’s Fashion’s Night Out. The model, actress and fashion muse signed 50 advanced copies of her book for guests that evening, as they milled about the dreamy Peter Marino-built store with glasses of bubbly.
Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures (Rizzoli) is a “lavish and deeply personal visual biography [that] reveals the life of an extraordinary woman who has been at the center of society, fashion, film, and contemporary culture for decades,” a release stated.
And quite a life Berenson has lead. The granddaughter of the legendary designer Elsa Schiaparelli—Berenson’s place in the fashion and style world seems predestined. By her young adult years she had already graced the glossy pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Time. She landed leading roles in Visconti and Kubrick films, as well as Guadagnino’s 2010 masterpiece, Io sono l’amore (I Am Love).
“I am very grateful to have been fortunate enough to with so many incredible people,” commented Berenson elegantly, “This book pays homage to that.”
The coffee table tome, includes introductory words by Vogue European editor Hamish Bowles, accompanied a collection of fashion editorials, magazine covers, film stills, and candid photos captured by the leading photographers of the day. At the signing, Berenson reflected fondly of her work with Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Steven Meisel—such works find themselves in A Life in Pictures. On FNO an assortment of 35 photographs and illustrations from the book hung throughout the boutique.
