Haute 100 Update: Mark Zuckerberg Passes Google Founders on List of America’s Richest
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is rich, that is of no doubt, but the young tech billionaire – just after the details of his $100 million donation to Newark public schools were released – has now edged out Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page when it comes to net worth for the first time, sparking new life into the Google-Facebook rivalry.
With a personal net worth of $17.5 billion, Zuckerberg has risen on the Forbes’ annual “Richest People in America” list. He now sits at number 14, up several spots from his number 35 spot last year, and is just short of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Zuckerberg just surpassed Brin and Page, each with net worths of $16.7, putting them both in the number 15 spot, just one below Zuckerberg.
Although several tech names made the illustrious list of names, only two broke into the top ten – Bill Gates at number one and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison in third place. Other tech figures to appear on the list (including several fellow Haute 100 San Francisco members) include Michael Dell (18), Steven Ballmer (19), Paul Allen (23), Steve Jobs (39), eBay founder Pierre Omidyar (50), Google’s Eric Schmidt (51), George Lucas (107), and Mark Cuban (171).
