Haute 100 Update: ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ on Blu-ray Shatters Global Sales Records

The release of George Lucas’s nine-disc set of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray has shattered global sales records to become the format’s biggest seller ever in just its first week of release. One million units of the highly anticipated set have been sold since it was released on Sept. 16 worldwide, with 515,000 of those units sold in North America alone.
The massive set is riddled with special features and extras, but some Star Wars purists had caused a stir when they said they would boycott the set in protest to Lucas’s alterations to the films, including many changes to Return of the Jedi – but that didn’t seem to stop the immense success the disc set has seen at all.
“Once again our fans’ enthusiasm to celebrate Stars Wars continues to amaze us,” said Kayleen Walters, senior director of marketing at Lucasfilm. “Our goal was to deliver a premium product that they could enjoy with their family and friends and we are thrilled that they are enjoying it as much as we hoped they would.”
