Fire Temporarily Shuts Down Bouchon Bakery
by Alison Agudo

A kitchen fire broke out in Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery in Yountville, and the world-renowned chef has said the bakery will be closed while they make all necessary repairs.

Thomas Keller took to Facebook early yesterday morning and said, “Earlier this morning at Bouchon Bakery in Yountville there was a fire in the kitchen. While we are still investigating the cause, we are thankful that our team is safe. The bakery will be closed while we make all necessary repairs. We hope to re-open as soon as possible.”

The Thomas Keller Restaurant Group is not saying anything further about when the bakery may re-open, how much damage there is or whether Bouchon Bistro, located next door, was affected. Keller’s famous restaurant, French Laundry, is located just down the street from the bakery.

A local news station reported that the fire was large enough to shut down Washington Street between Humboldt and Yount streets for around two hours and from what reporters have gathered, it appears the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem above a stove. It happened at 5:30 a.m. and the Calfire Yountville Battalion Chief Jim Vierra said firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof. He also said there is damage to the bakery’s stove, plus water and smoke damage. He estimated the damage to the building to be around $100,000, but there has been no official confirmation on this from Keller.
