Donny Deutsch’s Contemporary New York City Townhouse

Chairman of Deutsch, Inc., Donny Deutsch never really had much interest in acquiring houses, planes or boats. Until recently. Deutsch purchased a townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and completely renovated the home into a contemporary white-on-white gallery of modern art in eye-popping colors.
As a self-described as a “serial renter”, Deutsch, who has been married twice and has three children, had little interest in what he calls “stuff”. He has said, “People used to make fun of me because I didn’t own anything.” Five years ago, however, that all changed when he purchased a six-story, 15,000-square-foot mansion built in 1889. The home was updated in a French-neoclassical style in 1915 and Deutsch put his own touches on the home recently when he completely gutted everything except the limestone façade and turned the home into one of the coolest places in the city.
Frederic Schwartz, the architect who worked with Deutsch to transform the townhouse, said, “He wanted it to be sophisticated, spectacular and over-the-top.” He reportedly wanted to bring in as much natural light as possible so together they had a back wall installed largely made of glass and an expansive skylight above the floating travertine-marble staircase giving the five-bedroom home a spectacular natural glow. On the walls there are Warhols, Basquiats and Harings for pops of color.
Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper were the interior designers who helped Deutsch shape the townhouse into his dream home.
