Acne Launches Exclusive Jewelry Capsule Collection with Husam El Odeh
by Benjamin-Émile Le Hay

Starting this week, fashion label Acne, has launched a limited capsule collection jewelry collection in collaboration with German designer Husam El Odeh. Titled “Seafindings,” this spring/summer 2011 collection, is available at the online chic boutique, thecorner.com.

“When we first talked about collaborating with Husam about two years ago, I recall saying that I was hoping for an ongoing exploration, a relationship rather than a one night stand. Our collaborations have definitively developed into a creative love affair. There is no one I’d rather work with on this exclusive project for thecorner.com,” stated Acne’s founder, Jonny Johansson.

El Odeh studied fine art at Berlin’s Hochschule der Kuenste, before relocating to London in 1999 to launch his jewelry career, pursuing studies at Middlesex University. In the summer of 2005 the British Fashion Council awarded El Odeh a sponsorship for a slot at the New Generation show during London Fashion Week. He has since showed his wares three times in London and has collaborated with the likes of Topshop, Marios Schwab, Miharayasuhiro and Japan’s exclusive Tasaki.

The Acne collection includes five styles of earrings, cuffs, bracelets and assorted rings and each piece is numbered from five to 25, according to edition, style and material. The handmade designers are constructed of uniquely carved seashells atop silver plated brass or solid sterling.

El Odeh concluded: “We wanted to give the romanticism of seaside findings a bit of a graphic edge. The luxurious materials keep a rawness juxtaposed with inserts and clean lines. It is an exercise in two materials, cold hard metal and warm soft shell, both picking up elements from one another. All pieces are handcrafted in London and individually unique as every piece of shell is hand carved.”
