This month, the San Francisco 49ers are taking between-game breaks for community outreach efforts in the Bay Area and beyond. The events are part of the team’s RESPECT campaign, which teaches the importance of showing respect for schools, families and local communities.

On Monday, Sept. 26, the day after the 49ers play the Cincinnati Bengals, team members will work with Ohio youngsters through collaborations with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley and the Youngstown Boys and Girls Club. In addition to visiting children, players will participate in projects throughout the surrounding communities.

Earlier this month, San Francisco 49ers worked with students from Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY), an organization that gives disadvantaged and at-risk youth the tools they need to make good decisions. Team members went to Santa Clara Juvenile Hall on Sept. 12 to teach youngsters how to transform negativity through exercise and positive activities. Players worked closely with small groups, running football drills and discussing big-picture lessons for daily life.

Team members also talked to kids about setting ambitious life and career goals during a role model program at San Jose’s August Boeger Middle School on Sept. 19. On Sept. 6, the 49ers joined members of the Oakland A’s, San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Sharks for a San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce event recognizing the spirit and impact professional sports bring to the Bay Area.

Spokeswoman Joanne Pasternack, director of 49ers community relations and the 49ers Foundation, says the team is grateful for fan support and “honored to be a part of the fabric of the San Francisco Bay Area.”

“Hosting events in the community is the most gratifying way to show our appreciation while also bringing joy to those who are less fortunate,” she explained, in a release announcing the month’s events. “We are excited to launch another season of giving with a wide array of player and ownership involved events focusing on conveying the message of RESPECT for our schools, families, and community.”
