The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco Closing The Dining Room; New and Improved Restaurant Underway
by Alison Agudo

In an effort to provide guests with a more contemporary and less formal dining option, the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco will be closing The Dining Room in September to begin renovations.

After 20 years in business, The Dining Room’s final day will be September 15. The space will then be completely gutted and remodeled. A more modern restaurant, which has yet to be named, has been in the planning stages for years. The Ritz-Carlton’s motivation for the transformation was to create a space that is considered more “approachable” so they are incorporating a lively bar area with a cocktail program. There will also be two new entrances, one that opens up directly to the street and one through the hotel lobby.

While the intended contemporary feel to the new space, which seats over 100 patrons, will draw in a more relaxed crowd, there will still be a chef’s table and Chef Ron Siegel will continue to provide upscale menu options, only now with a more casual twist. The former Iron Chef winner has worked at The Dining Room since 2004 and during his time there he earned a Michelin star and maintained a four star rating from The San Francisco Chronicle. For those who want to experience Siegel’s infamous fine dining options before the contemporary touch is added, he’ll be offering his special Salt and Pepper Tasting Menu from August 9 through September 15.

It is anticipated that the new restaurant will be open for business before the holidays.

The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton is located at 600 Stockton St, San Francisco.
