Qatar’s $500 Million Italian Designed Floating Resort
by Alison Agudo

Italian architectural firm, Giancarlo Zema Design Group, is planning an elaborate semi-submerged luxury resort project in a protected marine area on the coast of Qatar.

“Amphibious 1000″ is projected to cost $500 million and will be divided into two sections of land and sea with residential buildings, offices, a marine park, floating walkways and underwater marine galleries. In the middle of all of this will be a central tower that will have a panoramic restaurant for guests to enjoy the view.

The resort will have four semi-submerged hotels that each include 75 luxury suites with access to private terraces. The sea section of the resort will also have underwater passageways that provide views of the marine park and connect the hotel rooms with the activities zones.

Of course, to help with the maze of floating walkways, the design group is also including electric vehicles to transport guests through the resort. There will also be 65.6 foot aluminum yachts that have hydrogen engines and underwater viewing globes.

Eighty anchored “Jelly-fish” suites will have underwater viewing decks in a private aquarium lounge perfect for views of an artificial reef bed. Each suite is able to accommodate six people and has five levels connected by a central spiral staircase. At the top of the suite, you’ll find a relaxation room and just below that you’ll find sleeping quarters and bathrooms. One flight down, guests can enjoy the kitchen, bathroom and daytime quarters. Below deck at 2.5 ft above sea level there are additional guest rooms and bathrooms. Below sea level is the underwater viewing lounge.

Giancarlo Zema Design Group, based in Rome, Italy, commented that the design of the resort was intended to “conquer new spaces for living in harmony with nature.”
